Sri Lanka beats West Indies by 113 runs!

Our team did it in style last night. We beat the hosts WI by 113 runs.

At the start, we looked a bit edgy. I was scared that we were going to see another fantastic collapse by the Sri lankan batting order. But our master blaster clicked. And with his 25th century, he brought victory to the Sri Lankan team.

Just remembered something. I remember someone saying that in order for Sri Lanka to win Jayasuriya has to play a big inning. Well, I certainly hope that is not true in all cases, but yesterday he DID play a fantastic innings. Oh and not forgetting the 3 wickets he took!

It was also nice to see Mahela coming back into runs. He needed to perform. He was getting a bit branded as a failure as he had not scored big runs, except in the match against Bermuda, who were the weakest of the minnows.

So what is next? With England on the 4th. Come to think of it, it is not much of a rest for our team. But hen again ICC has always been biased against us.Giving us the worst schedules. But that hasn’t prevented our guys from performing.

Congratulations Sri Lanka.Keep up the good work! We are keeping our fingers crossed, hoping that you would make it to the Finals! And beat the crap out of the Aussies, in a repeat of 1996 finals!

  1. It was a great show altogether by our boys. I loved to see Sanga behind the wicket! He was awesome. Looks like our boys learned the lessons well, by their defeat against SA. Moody promised a better batting show, and our boys lived up to that! Bowlers couldn’t be better.

One point. I don’t believe that Sri Lanka to win, Jayasuriya should alwaysa play a big innings. We are not so dependent on individual performance of one or two players. There are lot of occasions where we’ve won, even after Sana get out for a duck. But, if Sana get’s going over 100 runs, we have a 100% winning record in those matches!!!

In one of my past posts, I’ve pointed Sanath needs to convert those quick 20’s into big ones (And he did exactly that, yesterday ). I doubt whether you’ve misinterpreted that as “in order for Sri Lanka to win Jayasuriya has to play a big inning”. (May be you were refering to some one else though) My point was, “this is Sana’s last World Cup. So we expect from him, more than just 25 runs in 10 balls.

I think we are on right track. We can judge ourselves after the super 8 match against Australia is finished.

  2. Dude

The whole ICC being biased towards us thing is slightly off isn’t it… Consider the West Indies’s Schedule something like 4 matches in 10 days if my memory serves me correct. So then where do you stand?

It’s a game and sometimes a team gets the wrong rub of the green. Don’t make a mountain out of a molehill.
